Can someone please tell me what a shock leader is and how to create one?

I'm new to sea fishing.I get what its about just a bit (Lead-10Z = 10lb shock leader, 3oz = 30lb shock leader), but how much the device is switched on and it reminds you how to put background is a fly reel? Thank you
